During your stay (noho), you will get the opportunity to experience life on the marae. You will also learn how to integrate basic reo Maori into your everyday life and work. Moreover, you will learn about the significance and relevance of Maori culture in Aotearoa today. You will also get to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, its history, the principles of Te Tiriti, and why these have become such widely discussed topics of late.
You will learn the basics of tikanga and the importance of oral traditions in te ao Maori. Additionally, you will discuss karakia and learn waiata (songs) so that you are well-prepared and confident the next time you step into te ao Maori.
Owner of bilingual restaurant FUSH, Anton Matthews, is all about normalising te reo for all Kiwis. Anton has a degree in in Te Reo Maori and Maori Indigenous Studies, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching at the University of Canterbury Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha. A graduate from top Maori language academy Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo Maori, Anton is a natural teacher and presenter, never more comfortable than sharing his passion for te reo –Anton facilitates open and respectful conversations and provides practical advice and steps on how to incorporate key learnings into the workplace.
